MEDITATION IS THE TONGUE OF THE SOUL AND LANGUAGE OF OUR SPIRIT ~

Jeremy Taylor

Why meditate? Well firstly it is very good for your health and well being, it can heal on several levels; emotional, mental and spiritual, which in turn can heal and help the physical -  although it is not a substitute for visiting your GP.

Meditation in the more traditional sense of the word has, I believe, enhanced my spiritual awareness and its effects have led into enhancing my mediumship.

Meditation practices such as sitting for spirit and sitting in the power are the foundation of developing quality mediumship. Sitting for spirit is about making ourselves available to the spirit world and spending time in the presence of spirit, expecting nothing in return but to be within that love and power.

.

To work as a medium, we need to learn to relax and still the mind, heighten our senses, recognise our own spiritual nature, and move our mind to become aware of spirit. The regular practice of meditations such as ‘Sitting in the Power’ are vital to achieving these goals.

If you wish to sit in the power of spirit there are many very good CD's available, one of the best, I think is by the late Glyn Edwards.

If you have never meditated it does not have to be complicated, you need no special equipment, just a willingness to give it a go and practice, 5-10 minutes a day can be a benefit.

If you are new to meditating just try these simple exercises.

Sit comfortably place your hands on your thighs, take a really deep breath in, counting slowly 1....2....3....4....5....hold that breath, think of nothing else and then slowly release 1....2....3....4....5....just keep doing that for 5 minutes, each time your mind wanders bring it back to your breathing.  Or you could try sitting in front of a candle, just light the candle, sit quietly and breath deeply and slowly, each time your eyes or mind wanders, bring it back to the flame and think of your breathing. Simple!!

These are very basic, but they are a good way to practice to start with, before you move onto longer and more complicated meditations.

Anyone can meditate, however if you suffer from a psychotic illness or severe depression, very high or very low blood pressure, I would just check with your GP before you start, I cannot see there would be a problem but better safe than sorry!!

Do check my events/diary page to see when and where I am teaching or running courses on writing your own meditations or becoming a meditation teacher.
